CLIMATE WORKING GROUP LAUNCH: WITH THE NEWLY SET UP “KLIMAK”, BBH SUPPORTS MUNICIPAL UTILITIES AND SUPPLIERS ON THEIR WAY TO CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

The “KlimAK” (which is the German abbreviation for ‘climate working group’) is a working group specifically aimed at municipal utilities and suppliers and has been set up to consolidate the BBH group’s interdisciplinary advice on climate transition matters. Members will benefit from the opportunity to share information and exchange experiences as well as from the BBH group’s specialist expertise spanning the areas of law, economics, the energy industry and taxation, which is vital for making the transformation happen.

The European Green Deal, Fit for 55, climate protection legislation and last but not least the decision of the German Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) dated 29/04/2021 set the pace for climate neutrality. While the objective is clear, companies will have to deal with complex implementation issues due to the manifold requirements stipulated by the EU and Germany. The newly set up climate working group “KlimAK” aims at guiding municipal companies through the climate transition with respect to strategic decisions as well as the transition’s operational implementation.

“For the KlimAK, we have developed diverse formats, including multimedia formats, through which we can offer our members a comprehensive array of interdisciplinary services,” says BBH partner Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald. “We want to help companies navigate the major project of achieving climate neutrality,” adds BBH partner Prof. Dr. Ines Zenke. “The KlimAK is meant to be a platform for continuing education and development but also for an exchange of ideas and experiences.”

The way BBH is combining industry and specialist knowledge in its working group formats is well received by the market and offers added value. With its AK REGTP working group, which was set up as early as in 2004, BBH has shown how the traditional working group format can be put to use in a modern and efficient way to the benefit of a sector. Within this working group, BBH provides comprehensive guidance and support to more than 400 distribution system operators on matters of regulatory compliance management, with the working group also serving as a communication platform. The AK Arealnetz working group was set up in 2011 and addresses operators of industrial parks, airports and other closed distribution networks who generally also have to deal with complex regulatory matters.
