Focus Spezial has compiled its current list of the top commercial law firms in 21 practice areas. For this purpose, Focus asked lawyers and in-house counsels which (other) law firms they would recommend. Compliance, restructuring & insolvency and environmental law are the categories for which the law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) received a particularly high number of recommendations.

Compliance consulting has been a key practice area of BBH for many years. Just recently, BBH partner Rudolf Böck and his team developed a tax compliance management tool, which not only assists with practical tasks but can also be used as evidence for tax-compliant behaviour. Partner Prof. Ines Zenke and her team advise managing directors and board members on how to organise their company so as to minimise liability risks. In October, the second edition of the practical handbook on Corporate Governance by authors Zenke/Schäfer/Brocke will be published by the Berlin-based publishers de Gruyter.

Services in the area of restructuring & insolvency are mainly provided by our colleagues at BBH Munich. Markus Ladenburger and his colleagues have successfully defended already a large number of companies against contested transactions in insolvency proceedings, among others, in the framework of major insolvency proceedings of energy suppliers. Lawyers Markus Ladenburger, Nils Langeloh and their team also specialise in  receivables management, in the context of which they collect receivables on behalf of their clients in a professional, fair and effective manner.

Environmental law is relevant to various advisory areas of BBH such as European and national emissions trading, immission control, licences/permits under public law, the search for suitable repositories for nuclear waste and municipal climate protection projects.

Between 2013 and 2017, BBH was frequently recommended by Focus Spezial for energy matters – a category which the magazine has since abandoned.
