This year’s survey of Handelsblatt and the US publishing house Best Lawyers ranks three lawyers of the law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) among the best lawyers in Germany. While Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald and Prof. Dr. Ines Zenke have been part of this exclusive list of top lawyers for years, this year also Stefan Missling was commended for his expertise.

Which fellow lawyers would you recommend for specific fields of law? This was the question posed to lawyers in a large-scale peer-review survey carried out by Handelsblatt and Best Lawyers. The answers obtained were used to rank “Germany’s best lawyers”, with the ranking also including BBH partners Prof. Dr. Ines Zenke, Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald and Stefan Missling in the practice area of energy law.

For 20 years, lawyer Prof. Dr. Ines Zenke has been advising companies from the industrial and energy sector, combining legal expertise with political and academic work, which enables her to provide holistic and pragmatic advice. She is, among others, vice president of the Economic Forum of the SPD and honorary professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung – HNEE). Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald is an equally experienced lawyer and highly commended in Germany for his expertise in concession law and network regulation both in practice and teaching. In 2012, he was appointed honorary professor at the German University for Administrative Sciences Speyer (Deutsche Universität für Verwaltungswissenschaften Speyer). Christian Theobald and Ines Zenke have authored a total of about 500 publications, most of them published by the renowned specialist publishing house C.H.Beck.

Stefan Missling is an acknowledged expert in the regulation of charges, representing the interests of numerous grid operators and investors, in particular with respect to revenue caps and grid charges. He advises and represents various groups of complainants each consisting of several hundred BBH clients in landmark proceedings concerning the grid industry.

Theobald, Zenke and Missling also take a leading role in advising the members of the “AK REGTP” – a working group that was launched by BBH as early as 2004 and which more than 400 distribution system operators have joined to date to pool the interests of their companies.
