The law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) is expanding its management team to face future challenges in the usual comprehensive manner. Seven new partners were appointed across all locations as of 1 January 2023.

There is no decrease in contemporary challenges to our society. Municipalities and companies will have to deal with a number of obstacles on the path to achieving climate neutrality. At the same time, the war in Ukraine is disrupting firm plans and introducing new laws to be dealt with by the BBH group and its clients. To support clients as professionally as ever in every situation across all sectors, both the corporate group and its corporate management team are expanding. At the beginning of the year, Peter Bergmann and Marcel Malcher, longstanding members of the managing board of the group’s subsidiary BBH Consulting AG, became partners alongside their new managing board colleagues, Roland Monjau and Dr. Andreas Jankiewicz. Dr. Heiner Faßbender, Thomas Schmeding and Dr. Florian Wagner were also appointed partners of BBH.

Dip.-Ing. Peter Bergmann has been a consultant at BBH’s Berlin office and a managing board member of BBH Consulting AG since 2012. As an expert on regulatory compliance management, he focuses on energy system analyses, among other things, to develop cross-media planning approaches for integrated, strategic grid planning towards a decarbonised target system. He also focuses on providing advice in the context of grid takeovers, the development of supply and operating concepts and grid-side project management for the market area conversion from L-gas to H-gas.

Strategy development and the reorganisation of, among others, municipal utility groups is one of Dipl.-Ing. Marcel Malcher areas of expertise. With many years of corporate experience in energy sales and trading, Marcel Malcher has been a member of the managing board of BBH Consulting AG since 2011. At the Cologne office of BBH Consulting AG, the certified energy manager develops decarbonisation strategies in the generation and heating sectors.

Dipl.-Ing. Roland Monjau has been a consultant in Berlin since 2011 and a partner at BBH Consulting AG since 2021. His main focus is on integrated power and systems for the combined generation of heat and power. He supports energy suppliers and industrial companies on their way to a decarbonised energy supply. His expertise further extends to the development of decentralised energy services.

Dr. Andreas Jankiewicz has been working for BBH Consulting AG as a consultant and manager with general commercial power of attorney since 2011. As a partner and managing board member, he is responsible for a well-coordinated team of experts in Berlin and Munich. For more than 24 years, he has been expertly advising municipal utilities and other energy suppliers in the DACH region on the topics of corporate strategy and business models as well as on information technology and digitalisation.

By appointing Dr. Heiner Faßbender as a partner, the BBH group further expands its energy law practice in Cologne. The lawyer mainly advises on energy law issues relating to the generation of electricity and heat based on cogeneration and renewable energy sources as well as their distribution. He has been working for BBH in Berlin and Cologne since 2015, with an interlude as a policy officer at the Federal Network Agency.

LL.M. Thomas Schmeding specialises in energy, data protection and IT law. He initially worked at the Berlin office from 2005 to 2008 and has been based in Hamburg since 2018. The lawyer advises on future energy and heat supply (with a focus on hydrogen), on energy law issues relating to the grid system and distribution. He also provides advice to municipal utilities and companies regarding IT procurement processes and data protection law requirements.

Dr. Florian Wagner started his career at BBH in Berlin but has been working at the Erfurt office since 2017. He is a proven expert in the energy and utilities sector for municipal utilities, industrial companies and the housing industry.
