According to the recently published JUVE Handbook, the takeover of Stromnetz Berlin GmbH by the State of Berlin – in the context of which the law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) served as advisor – ranks fourth of the 10 largest M&A deals of German law firms in 2020/2021.
BBH advised the State of Berlin from the very beginning, i.e. from the moment when Vattenfall GmbH offered to sell all of its shares in Stromnetz Berlin GmbH to the state or to a state-owned company. The €2.1 billion deal was closed on 01/07/2021. Furthermore, in the context of the takeover of Stromnetz Berlin GmbH, the contentious concession procedure in which BBH also assisted the State of Berlin was brought to an end by mutual agreement.
BBH partner Astrid Meyer-Hetling, who acted as lead advisor in the transaction, states: "We were able to show what we can do best: Working together as an interdisciplinary team to bring a really large and complex project to a successful completion.”
In particular, the following BBH experts were involved in this project:
Astrid Meyer-Hetling (lead advisor; energy law/M&A/litigation), Rudolf Böck (taxes), Thomas Straßer (financing/valuation), Benedikt Doms (energy law/M&A), Dennis Tischmacher (energy law/litigation), Bernd Günter (employment law)
