Niko Liebheit advises energy suppliers and producers as well as industrial and commercial consumers in the field of energy and electricity tax and on other matters of environmental energy law (among others, regarding the Fuel Emissions Trading Act (BEHG), the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG). He focuses on the (tax-related) legal obligations and compliance aspects as well as the drafting of contracts and the assessment of energy costs. His key areas of practice also include decentralised energy generation and energy management.

- 1996-2002 studies of law as well as basic studies (Grundstudium) of French law at Saarland University; study year abroad in Tokyo, Japan
- 2002-2003 LL.M. programme on European Integration at the Europa-Institut of Saarland University as well as research assistant at the chair of civil, commercial and business law
- 2005-2007 policy advisor at the department of energy, transport and telecommunications of the Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e. V. – BDI) in Brussels and Berlin
